Sustained Investigation Updates for AP Art & Design
‣
SIU 1: 9.19.2023
- Exploring ergonomics, sustainable technology
- I have been developing piece ideas and working on the hybrid laptop CAD.
- Goals for the next two weeks:
- Revise hinge, sketches & CAD
- Implement locking or magnets for laptop mode— default position for screen
- Make sure screen can fully pivot 360 degrees
- Inquiry: How can we have a healthier relationship with technology?
- Challenges upcoming:
- I am behind on college essays, and need to write around 10 supplementals + rewrite personal statement during the next week. This takes away time at home to write.
I talked with David Webster (product designer) to get feedback on this design. He enjoyed the design but suggested that the hinges connecting arms and screen will be unstable and cause unintended torquing motion.

SIU 2: 10.31.2023
- I’ve been preparing my first piece. I designed an ergonomic keyboard to be cheaply printed at home, and assemble easily with magnets. The goal is to make ergonomics more accessible. This was the piece I took into Critique #1.
- Suggestions from the critique: add wrist support
- Stronger adhesive for magnets
- Hide seam better
- In the next two weeks, I will learn the more exact dimensions of the bar magnets I’m using. I will build the other side of the keyboard and assemble
- Inquiry: How can we make humane technology more accessible?
- Challenges:
- I will be visiting family often.
- I am continuing to apply to colleges.

SIU 4: 11.15.2023
- I have been sketching some potential products. I have not been as productive in the past two weeks due to personal and academic issues.
- In the next two weeks, I hope to start doing CAD or other physical work to get four pieces for the critique on finals week.
- Inquiry: no idea
